On May 29 2022, Shared Tables hosted their annual Gala Ball ‘Fine Food & Theatre’ showcasing women in hospitality at Crown Palladium. It was our absolute honour that Q Events executive chef, Lana Cargill was selected out of hundreds of chefs, to carefully curate a menu alongside four other female chefs. The Shared Tables Gala Ball puts an emphasis on building up and supporting women and celebrating their talents, in addition, to giving the hospitality industry the opportunity, to network and celebrate the achievements of their venues over the past year.
Partnering with Aquna Sustainable Murray Cod to create the 2nd Entreé of the night (a hot entreé) the dish featured classic Southern Italian flavours with a modern twist. Lana’s dish incorporated purple cauliflower and watermelon radish which gave the dish a delicate, feminine touch that was quite appropriate for the event. The incorporated purple within the dish is also a nod to represent International Women’s Day, whose global theme this year was #BreakTheBias. Look at how immaculate that presentation is.
A select few from our Metropolis & Q Events team were fortunate enough to attend the gala ball which was a nice change of scenery and a bit of a role reversal – as we are normally the ones who are planning the event, coordinating the set-up and serving. Ultimately our team was there to support and congratulate Lana Cargill who prepped, cooked and served to over 800 guests – a huge achievement itself on her behalf, but we also got the opportunity to connect with industry friends and colleagues.
Our team raved about the curated showcase dishes and standout favourites were Lana’s 2nd Entrée and Lisa Van Zanten’s Dessert which was a Bailey’s, caramel, and popcorn mousse. They also liked the touch of pairing each dish with a wine to complement and enhance the flavours.
Throughout the night there were multiple auctions at the event, where Metropolis & Q Events had donated cocktail parties to be auctioned off (let’s just say there was ALOT of big spenders that night).
The night consisted of endless theatrical entertainment with the likes of a solo performance by Tottie Goldsmith, a Moulin Rouge inspired, dance spectacular show by Spectrum Talent and the show-stopping band Stand and Deliver who performed all the favourite hits from the 80s (picture our team on the dancefloor) to end the night.
A huge congratulations again to our Executive Chef, Lana Cargill we are immensely proud.
